PHOTOCULL · GUIDE

How to review similar photos without rushing the decision

Start with one small group of photos and a clear reason for each choice. This guide works even before you try PhotoCull.

1. Pick a small, meaningful set

Choose one outing, one burst or one album. Starting with 20–50 photos is a way to learn your preferences, not a performance claim or a product limit.

2. Separate duplicates from different moments

Two identical files and two similar frames are different problems. Similar frames can preserve different expressions, gestures or context. Before deleting, decide whether the difference matters to you.

3. Look at the subject first

Check the part that matters: eyes in a portrait, the action in a pet photo, or the intended focal point in a scene. A sharp background does not necessarily mean the subject is in focus.

4. Read reasons as clues

An AI review can point you to a busy background or a clipped subject. Compare that comment with the image. If the review is unhelpful or mistaken, ignore it. Do not treat a confident sentence as proof.

5. Keep the imperfect photo you care about

A technically weaker frame can hold the expression or memory you want. You do not have to justify that choice to a model. PhotoCull’s suggestions can be changed before deletion.

6. Check the source before deleting

Deleting from Apple Photos can affect other devices when iCloud Photos is enabled. Deleted library items are normally recoverable in Recently Deleted for 30 days, unless permanently removed. Mac folder deletion has different behavior and may be direct. Keep a separate backup.

7. Prepare before a first PhotoCull session

PhotoCull is preparing for launch. It targets system version 26+ and Apple Intelligence-capable hardware. Required local models may need a multi-gigabyte download. Photos must be locally readable. There is no fixed promise for scan duration or uninterrupted background operation.
